Most glass damage ends in new glass. A crack keeps travelling, and a pane that has been struck is weaker than it looks, so we are upfront when a repair would only delay the job. What can often be saved is everything around it: the frame, the seals, the hardware and the door itself.
That is usually good news for the bill. Replacing the glass in a sound frame is a smaller job than replacing the whole window or door, and it leaves your paint and render alone.

Where glass sits decides what it has to be. Australian Standard AS 1288 sets out where safety glass is needed, such as in and around doors, at low level and in bathrooms. Older homes often have plain annealed glass in places where a new pane should be toughened or laminated, and we will tell you if yours is one of them.
Toughened glass cannot be cut once it is made, so it is ordered to size. If yours has to be made up, you will know the timing before you say yes.
